5 IAI PDF Print E-mail

The new research chemical 5 IAI or 5-Iodo-2-aminoindane - systematic (IUPAC) name is 5-iodo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-2-amine – was developed in the nineties as an MDMA substitute at Purdue University. Contrary to other aminoindane derivatives of the same class, such as MMAI and MDAI, 5 IAI has proven to cause serotonergic neurotoxicity of certain degree in rats. Yet this chemical is significantly less toxic than its analogous amphetamine homologue pIA.

The observed damage, registered in laboratory conditions, barely reaches statistical importance.
